And this is only one of the new mobile phone’s cool capabilities! For example, the motion control technology also allows users to activate the snooze function of their phone by waving across the device. Sony Ericsson launched Z555 and two other impressive cell phones with the occasion of this year’s Consumer Electronics Show’s news conference from Las Vegas. Excepting the tri-band Z555 model, which features also a music player, FM radio and a 1.3-megapixel camera, Sony Ericsson unveiled two new models for its Walkman music phone handset line-up, including the Walkman W760 model. The W760 mobile phone features satellite positioning technology, as well as mapping software from Google, which allows people to follow step by step directions to their different destinations.

Sony Ericsson announced that the Z555 flip cover mobile phone will be available in the first quarter of 2008; for the Walkman W760 model people will have to wait a little longer, until the second quarter of the year. Sony Ericsson’s Walkman branded music phones have been quite successful in the recent period. Houston’s KHCW-TV Launches Free Mobile Phone Cam Service Enabling Drivers To Avoid Traffic Headaches

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

Tis’ the season to imagine driving home or to the office without sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic! One local television station here is doing its part to make that dream come true by introducing the KHCW Traffic Jam Cell Cams — a free mobile traffic service helping local drivers to spot and avoid highway tie-ups. KHCW-TV channel 39, the local CW network affiliate in Houston, is launching the new advertising-supported service targeting the more than 2,000,000 daily commuters in the region. Commuters will now be able to view traffic tie-ups on their mobile devices before leaving their home, office or school, to help them plan the quickest and safest route.”This is something that isn’t dependent on having a morning news show to offer traffic to commuters,” said Roger Bare, vice president and general manager of KHCW-TV, Tribune Broadcasting Company, Houston. “This service gives people real-time traffic information anytime, anywhere and should prove to be popular with local commuters.”The service relies on more than 600 traffic cameras operated by Houston TranStar.

Houston TranStar is collaboration between four government agencies responsible for providing transportation management and emergency management services to the greater Houston area. Cameras are mounted along freeways, tollways and some major county arterials in the region, which includes Harris, Galveston, Montgomery Fort Bend, Brazoria and Waller counties. This area, with an estimated population of 5.16 million inhabitants and 4.3 million registered vehicles, encompasses 5,948 square miles. Each day, local vehicles travel more than 83.3 million miles within the area.

Ericsson completes T-Mobile Germany network modernization in record time

Monday, November 12th, 2007

With Ericsson as EDGE supplier and telecom services partner, T-Mobile Germany has completed the first part of its GSM network modernization in record time - a major step towards the operator’s goal of being the first operator in Germany to offer mobile broadband nationwide. Consuming about 30 percent less power, the new EDGE-compliant GSM radio network allows for the seamless use of mobile broadband applications.
The new network provides particular benefits for consumers and enterprise customers in sparsely populated areas, where neither DSL nor WCDMA/HSPA are yet available, by providing fast mobile-internet access with bandwidth four times that of ISDN.

Users also benefit from EDGE data capabilities and improved network quality.Over the past 24 months, Ericsson has upgraded more than half of T-Mobile’s radio network, replacing more than 10,000 base stations in seven federal states with the network operating commercially and without subscribers noticing any deterioration in service. Günther Ottendorfer, Chief Technology Officer at T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH, says: “A system swap during commercial operations is like open-heart surgery.

We appreciate the fact that, together with our partner Ericsson, we were able to finish the project three months ahead of the original schedule. For us this was uncharted territory. There has not been a similar project of this size before.”
